Electronics Sony HTCT100 Sound Bar with Sub-Woofer - Black

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Sound
I was using a high dollar 5.1 surround sound system but wanted to down size to something to go with a new SONY XBR6 40" TV. I could not have made a better choice! The sound is awesome and I love the BRAVIA sync control, I can control my TV, Blu Ray player, and this Amp easily with one remote

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Sound is fine, but more functions available if you own a Sony Bravia TV
Very good sound upgrade compared to TV's built-in speakers. It is an excellent choice if you have a 32" or 36" HDTV in a medium size room (e.g., large bedroom). The sound bar is about an inch narrower than the width of the chassis of a 32" HDTV. On-screen menu features only available if mated to a Sony Bravia TV. I have it hooked up to a Panasonic and now wish I had a Sony so I could use a single remote, get on-screen menu adjustments, and mount it neatly below the Sony chassis.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great product, but be aware of its connectivity requirements
This system provides great sound in a simple configuration. The main unit serves as both A/V receiver and sub-woofer, while the soundbar replaces the five speakers usually found in 5.1 setups. The A/V receiver allows one to switch among three HDMI input components, such as DVD, SAT, cable box, Blu-ray, or game machine, as well as a Sony Media Port device. But the components must have HDMI connections. The Sony manual discourages DVI to HDMI converters, but in fact they don't even work. The output of my cable-box / digital video recorder was DVI, so I tried using a converter cable, but the Sony A/V receiver would not pass it through to the monitor. Fortunately Comcast was willing to replace my DVR with one that had an HDMI output, and that worked fine.

In place of a television I used a HDMI 1080p computer monitor, which is much less expensive, and that worked fine with the whole system.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good value, but not true surround
After reading the reviews of various products I decided this was a good fit for me because (a) it doesn't require running a bunch of wires; (b) it consolidates several HDMI devices; (c) price was reasonable. Our room isn't huge so I had hopes that I'd get a good "surround" feel from this, but not so. The sound quality is good, the bass is much better than it was with just TV (Sony KDF-42-WEGA 655) sound, but it's not like having real rear speakers.
