Electronics Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (50pk Spindle)
Books and Publications Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Please use ImgBurn for buring ISO's
Use ImgBurn to burn the ISO images to these dual layr DVD's. i tried Nero 9 Burning ROM and is not as good. Nero 9 does fine on the firs layer but the recording quality is spotty at the second layer.

This is due to the software's computer resources' priority. ImgBurn is a better manager. I have burned over 50 movie images using ImgBurn with 100% success(I like to make 1:1 backups of my DVD movie collection). My coasters only come from software such as Nero 9. I have not experimented any trouble with Apple's Disc Utility.

So go ahead with confidence and give the Memorex brand a chance.
By the way Ritek and Office Depot brands are the sae. So to with Memorex because they are cheaper.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Product
Been through 3 packs of these, and have never had a single burn fail. All work and play great. Best deal for the price.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Mixed Results
I've had mixed results with this product. The first spindle I bought was fantastic, only 2 or 3 bad presses on the spindle. The next one I bought, I must have thrown out 20 discs or more. All of them press issues. A friend of mine had very similar results. Memorex is great, when it is good. You'll just have to average it out over the number you purchase and decide if the fabulously cheap price makes the occasional bad spindles acceptable.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very reliable on properly maintained systems
I bought the Memorex dual layer discs despite the spate of negative reviews simply because the price of the next cheapest brand was prohibitive. At first I was really upset with the discs. As I tried to burn DVDs I got error message after error message telling me that there had been a media error. I happily sat all these discs off to one side. Eventually, after about 15 successfully burned discs, I had a stack of 10 failures. But then I started trying to use these discs on future burns, and I eventually was able to successfully use all of them.

Each person's experience will, of course, be different. Their success or lack of success will depend on a host of factors, including the age of their DVD burner, whether their firmware is up to date, what kind of material they are burning, their computer and operating system, and so on. But my own experience is that there really is nothing wrong with the Memorex Dual Layer discs. In my case the problem seems to stem instead from hardware or software problems on my computer.

In other words, I believe many people are blaming the discs for the problems when in fact the problem is more likely something else. My own suspicion is that these discs -- and probably any blank media -- will work more happily with more up to date systems, including software, hardware, and firmware.

So, if you are wondering whether this is a perpetually flawed product, my experience that it is not. My belief is that many of those giving the Memorex discs such dreadful reviews simply haven't adequately troubleshot the failures. After reusing discs even after notifications of media failure, I ended up having only 3 out of the first 50 Memorex discs I had used. This compares favorably with the failure rate I've experienced with 4.7 GB discs.
