Books My FBI: Bringing Down the Mafia, Investigating Bill Clinton, and Fighting the War on Terror

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Regardless of Motive, it is Interesting History
It is obvious throughout this book that Louis Freeh wanted the world to know that he was not a member of Opus Dei, he was not out to "get" Clinton, and that he did his best to investigate the Saudi bombings.

However, despite his motives, he ended up writing a very interesting story. His pursuit of the New York Mafia, his insight into the FBI and the Executive branch, his perspective of the Clinton administration, and the inside story of the Saudi investigation all make for an interesting read.

This book took a few hours to read. There are a couple of slow pages, but overall it was edited well, paced quickly, and is the right length for the subject. If you are interested in this period of history, in the Bill Clinton Administration, or in the FBI, you will appreciate reading this book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Brilliant Inside Look At The FBI
Mr. Freeh has done a marvelous job of giving an inside view of this organization and the progress of his career leading to and through his tenure there. The author provides as much expose' as possible (without jeopardizing security) with the reader to understand how the Clinton White House attempted to control what should be an independent investigative agency.

Well written and a good vacation read.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not As Good As I Thought
Mr. Freeh really went after President Clinton in this book. I wish he would have provided a lot more details about this. I understand that he had to investigate him and how terrible it was that the president put him in that situation but it seemed way more personal. He highlights good things that happened in his time at the FBI but didn't really get into it too much. He got into things did wrong even less. I just expected so much more from him. He appears arrogant on TV and does in the book also. He talks about how he was thwarted with money issues by Congress and couldn't bring the FBI into the 21st century. Just disappointing. Information is there but the explanation isn't.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - My FBI
Good read for persons interested in federal law enforcement perspective. A fair assessment of oval office attempts to influence the business of federal law enforcement and policies of FBI. My perception of Mr. Freeh did not change after the read - a dedicated professional who did the best possible job under difficult circumstances at a particular point in time.
