Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Short, to the point, and worth reading.
There is so much to be said about this book, so I will try to simplify my thoughts. I recommend reading this book for a few reasons: It is a synopsis of the life and time of George Washington, one of most significant figures in history. Additionally, it is short enough to capture and hold the attention of the people interested in the topic, but who don't have a lot of time to read. Finally, it is important to understand the past in order to fully explain and account for the present. Reading this book may enable some a fuller appreciation for our rights and our country. This book is broken down into segments that are easy to read, straightforward, and interesting. Many ideas that are presented, such as Washington's education, I feel can be disputed with high-quality research. To the author's credit, he does a fantastic job of presenting Washington in a light often done by historians to create a favorable position. ... Read More

I am an avid history buff, and read many books. This was an illuminating adventure into the soul of our countries' father!

His resume wouldn't indicate as much: he started the battle that started the French-and-Indian War; he was a wealthy Virginia farmer; served in the Virginia House of Burgess; he served as the head of the Continental Army; he served as the chairman of the Constitutional Convention; and he served as the first President of the United States. His personal gravitas caused even the greatest men of the Americas (Jefferson, Adams, Hamilton, Franklin) to stand in awe of him; one speech, powerfully delivered, turned soldiers from a desire to revolt to a desire to see their government succeed; ... Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Probably not worth your time
This book was a fast little read and was mildly enjoyable. I didn't really gain any knowledge or special insight into Washington though. I learned more about Washington from reading Chernow's Hamilton bio. If you know absolutely nothing about Washington, this might be an OK starting point to get a feel for his character, if not much knowledge of his actual life.
