I love the language map series! We have them in Spanish, Chinese, Italian and French. Although some complain that they are too tall, we just throw them in our daypacks. They are laminated and very sturdy. Provide basic "necessity" vocabularly. You can even point to the line in English and show it to someone -- especially useful if you don't know the language at all.

It packs a lot of information into a small, compact folding card. We give one to our students to supplement their classroom learning during travel and when they go to restaurants or stores.

My friend got me this map for my last birthday. We've both been taking French for some time now, but I still really enjoyed receiving it as a gift. It's a great way to remind yourself of how to ask some basic questions, and also contains vocabulary that is very useful for finding your way around France. It's nice how the map is divided into sections for different situations, like shopping and dining out. It's a little big if you're carrying it in a small purse or bag, but good quality and worthwhile to have. I would recommend it for everyone.
