- Best DVD for the Price!
Being a semi-professional videographer, I burn a LOT of DVDs. I've gone through a lot of brands. The reviewer who wrote about his problems with Memorex was spot-on correct. I bought four spindles of Memorex (different times and different stores) and had about a 20-30% failure rate consistently. Totally unacceptable. I'm now on my third 100-pack of Philips DVD+R DL DVDs and I get maybe 1-2 failures in each stack of 100 blanks. Even then, I've got a sneaking suspicion that they fail to burn mainly because I insist on multi-tasking my computer while it burns DVDs.

This comes after about a year of using Philips single-layer DVDs with no problems, either. Single layers and dual layers seem to be of equally high quality.

If you're overwhelmed by too many choices on blank DVDs, Philips is the best buy without a doubt. You've got minimum problems with Philips and a screaming good price. ... Read More

- Philips Brand Better than Memorex Hands Down
I recently purchased both this product and the 50 pack spindle Dual Layer Disc from Memorex Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (50pk Spindle). This product cost, with shipping, $98.98, roughly 99 cents a DVD. The Memorex spindle cost me $47.24, roughly 94 cents a DVD. I was happy to save the money on a well known product such as Memorex...until I hit a streak of coasters.

3 DVDs in a Row failed to burn, and in the end, 10 of the 50 failed to burn. That is to say, I actually bought 40 good DVDs and 10 coasters, for a price of $1.18 each working DVD. Some other reviews screamed 60% coaster rates.

So far I have burned 40 DVDs from the Philips DR8S8BOOF 100 pack spindle, with not a single coaster. The Dual Layer technology and reliability is Just what I expected and what I received, something i can't say for Memorex.
