Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Ten years ago, Carol Alt was feeling bad. Really bad. She had chronic headaches, sinusitis, and stomach ailments; she was tired and listless. And then Carol started eating raw—and changed her life. Eating in the Raw begins with her story and then presents practical, how-to information on everything you need to know about the exciting movement that’s been embraced by Demi Moore, Pierce Brosnan, Sting, Edward Norton, and legions of other health-minded people. You’ll learn:

•What exactly raw food is—and isn’t—and how to integrate it into your diet
•How to avoid the all-or-nothing pitfall: you can eat some cooked foods, you can eat some foods partially cooked, and you don’t have to deprive yourself
•Why raw food is not just for vegetarians or vegans—Carol eats meat, and so can you
•The differences between cooked and raw vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, and what they mean for you
•An ease-in approach to eating raw, and how to eat raw in restaurants

In addition, Carol answers frequently asked questions and offers forty simple recipes for every meal, from light dishes such as Gazpacho and Lentil Salad to entrees including Tuna Tartare and Spaghetti al Pesto and even desserts like Pumpkin Pie and Apple Tart with Crème Anglaise—rounding out a thorough, accessible, and eminently compelling case why in the raw is the best way to eat.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great book for beginners!
If you're interested in starting a raw food lifestyle but aren't sure if it's for you, then I absolutly recommend this book. Carol keeps it practical, doesn't get too technical. Just great advice and some great recipes on how to make the transition from the(SAD)Standard American Diet, to raw. It's all about baby steps. She mentions things like thinking about your favorite foods and trying to find their raw equivalents, such as replacing your favorite bagels with Ezekiel bread (no it's not %100 raw but is still healthier for you because it's baked at low temperatures and made from sprouted grains). Also to think about the raw foods that you already eat, like fruit or seared tuna, and expand on those. She also advises to start out with trying to make only one or two of your daily meals completely raw, and then gradually build from there. I've bought a lot of raw food books recently and this is definatly the one you ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great for the beginner or who need some motivating
This is a GREAT book for those just starting to eat raw or who want to learn about it. I've read about the raw diet for years so there wasn't anything new here...but I thought Carol was very motivating and explained things very well. She makes you feel like she's just like you and that helps you feel like you can do this too! I think some of her suggestions are better suited for people that have alot of money to spend on food or who live in big cities where you can find a big supply of good raw foods - but like she says "you get what you pay for". Highly recommend to those that need some raw food motivation!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A+ for any new raw foodists
This book was just what I needed to explore raw foodism. Carol Alt gave very direct ideas and opinions on her own venture into raw foods as well as some pretty decent recipes, tips and tricks for preparing raw foods. I count this book as a must have for anyone that is interested in this lifestyle.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Lots of good information for the beginner
The most interesting parts of this book are Carol's own story and her overall tips for the beginner in raw food. As a beginner myself I appreciated her advice to try a little at a time inserting raw into your diet in lieu of worrying about switching over altogether all at once. The recipes were ok, but I live in a pretty remote location - so her general advice was of more use to me than the actual recipes. But if you live in an urban area you should have no problem at all rounding up these ingredients, and enjoying a healthier lifestyle!
