Product Description:
At last! All the tricks of the top recording engineers revealed at mixdown! With this book you'll learn: the evolution of mixing; mixing styles such as L.A. vs. New York vs. London; the six elements of a mix; rules for arrangements; and from where to build your mix. This handy book also teaches the secrets of EQ and 'magic frequencies'; how to add effects and EQ'ing reverbs; sonic layering of effects; how to calculate delay time; and much more. Includes an expansive chapter on mixing in 5.1 Surround, plus an incredible section filled with interviews with the top engineers in the field, such as George Massenburg, Allen Sides, Bruce Swedien, and over a dozen more.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very useful...
I found a lot of really useful information in this book. I do have to add that a "handbook" to me would be something more along the lines of a tightly written technical reference...but with that said, I'm glad this book wasn't that. I'm not all that into the interspersed "celebrity mixer" comments or the interviews with same that make up a third of the book. But in all honesty, I'll probably eventually read them all and find them to be useful too. So all in all: another Bobby Owsinski must-have for your studio shelf.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Reference!
Great place to start. Really builds a good foundation. The interviews are with the pros, as with all of Owsinki's books. I highly recommend all of Owsinki's books.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Useful information that assumes some background
Very useful information, interesting reading and thinking about what the different engineers have to say. I also like the sections it provides on the artistic aspect of mixing.

It assumes you're already somewhat familiar with mixing sound, like how to "sweep across the spectrum" to find the dominant frequency. But just reading through it improved the quality of the live mixes I do under less-than-ideal recording conditions.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - 'THE' book on mixing technics
This is THE book to a getting-pro mixer and sound engineer. Very good tips, up to date comentaries and references, lots of state-of-art producers and engineers comments and references.... Well, a must-have, and i'm not getting any money to say that. I leave in Brasil, a blight on good comments and solid info about music production and recording... again, this book is the book for pro mixers and sound engineers trying to sound (way) a little better....

A must have.

My small studio thanks it!
