Drane's book should be the basis for a documentary film. It is thoroughly researched and well written. A fairly objective and denominationally neutral account, this book should not offend anyone's religiosity. Most readers will find a refreshingly intelligent interpretation with minimum bias. The content is not comprehensive (158 pages) but is a respectable balance between pleasing and instructing. The layout affords easy reference, and the pictures are coffee table quality. Without hesitation, I would recommend this book as an introductory read for the novice student of Christ. Nevertheless, the experienced student may find it as enjoyable, informative, and inspirational as I did.
