- Favorite Heroine in Urban Fantasy
"Moon Called" is an urban fantasy about Mercedes Thompson, known as Mercy to her friends. As a "walker" Mercy shape changes into a coyote, and has friends of an otherworldly nature. The world she inhabits has seen the fae come out of hiding, so the populace knows that there is a little bit of supernatural in the world, but people like her, the werewolves, and the vampires are all still in shadows and not really out in the public view.

One of the interesting bits of the novel is that they actually track the coming out of supernatural creatures, granted it is in the background, but it certainly is refreshing to see the subject talked about as a present tense strategy than as a past tense "whee the world knows now!" Another thing I like about the novel is that Mercy is an auto mechanic, and imminently competent.

In Moon Called, Patricia Briggs creates a thrilling community of werewolves, vampires, witches and other magical creatures that have been hiding from the human world. Until recently, that is.
The first installment in the Mercy Thompson trilogy introduces the feisty heroine and her paranormal friends. There's Stefan, the deceptively friendly vampire; Elizaveta the snooty Russian witch; Adam the Alpha of the local werewolf pack; and Samuel, Mercy's one-time sweetheart and son of the most powerful werewolf in America, Bran. Mercy herself has the unique ability to shift into a coyote ("One moment I'm a person and the next a coyote: pure magic").

Patricia Briggs is at her excellent best again! Each book entangles you in the characters every adventure.This is no exception. A fine read!

- Great author, great stories
All of the Patricia Briggs books are great, haven't read a bad one yet. My wife and I really enjoyed the three "Mercy Thompson" books that we have read so far. If there was any justice in the world, P. Briggs would be as well off as the author of the "Harry Potter" books. Ms. Briggs' books are entertaining, well written, and hard to put down. Other recent authors in fiction genres that I read that I have liked include Terry Pratchett and Lois McMaster Bujold (so that you have an idea of my taste, rather than to convince you to read them).
