Tim Patrick is a software architect and developer with nearly 25 years of experience in designing and building custom software solutions. Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - just okay...
This book is good if you have additional reference to read, but you can't rely on this book alone. This is a thick book but could have been thin if not for some topics that are less important. The good thing about this book is the simple approach on parsing XML, and the deployment of the application. Some topics are good as well, but I can't compare this book to Mastering series or some older books like Visual Basic tips and techniques (jamsa) or that of Peter Aitken. Some good reviews are pointing to Jessie Liberty or Matt Macdonald's book, but I still have to check them out.

a very useful, and well written book; very readable and with enough detail to make it useful but still focused and organized. Little gems of code tricks are spread throughout the book. A very worthwhile book and worth the price.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent Book!

I am reading Start-to-Finish Visual Basic 2005 and working through the code chapter by chapter, and I love it. I am getting up to speed on VB 2005 after programming mostly in VBA, and this book is the best dang VB 2005 book I have seen, and I have seen quite a few.... Not only is the code quite instructive, but I love Mr. Patrick's refreshing wit--it makes the project fun. Building a complete application from start to finish is a great way to learn Visual Basic 2005. Dry reference books are fine, but this book really puts it all together and makes VB 2005 come alive. Thanks, Tim, for a job well-done!

Extremely helpful building process, directed at the beginner as it says on the tin. At the end of it I was able to write my own link programmes.
