Product Description:

Supermodel Carol Alt takes us on a wild ride through the glamorous, cutthroat world of fashion and fame—in a biting, witty, and absolutely authentic novel that rocks the world of high-end modeling!

Tall, beautiful, practical Melody Ann Croft of Morristown, New Jersey, is busting her behind as a waitress and wishing there was an easier way to earn money for college. When a customer claiming to be a fashion photographer insists she could become a model, Melody is skeptical—and totally shocked when dropping his name actually opens agency doors. Signed up before her head has even stopped spinning, she's got a new name—Mac—and is off to her first shoot. Could this be that 'easier way' at last?

But in modeling, nothing's easy. Mac faces demanding diva photographers with their body-torturing, day-long sessions, and jealous rivals whose flawless beauty hides sharp claws. There are rumors and lies, lecherous model-collecting playboys, rock stars and drugs, and the most perilous pitfall of them all . . .straight male models! Temptation is everywhere, and even a level-headed Jersey girl may have trouble keeping her footing on the long, hard climb up.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Boring
I have read very good reviews on the book This Year's Model, written by Supermodel Carole Alt. I also like Carole Alt, I think she is beautiful, but more importantly, smart and decided a long time ago, that she was not only going to be about beauty - but rather she was also going to use her brains. I like that!

So, its with very positive vibes that I started reading This Year's Model. I really enjoyed the first few chapters. Then, something happened - the book starting dragging and all of a sudden, I felt myself completely disconnected for any of the characters, including Mac.

Although fashion is not a big deal for me, I usually always enjoy a good fashion-oriented chick lit read, but this one got very boring, very quickly.

The writing style was okay, but the storyline got bogged down in petty details and I just could not phantom any type of interest in the story after the ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Amazing! Carol's best work!
This book is, to steal a word from the book itself - 'fabtastic'!
Superb writing - the story grabs the reader from the get go. Talk about a hook - this book is it. The oh-so-personal writing style left me wanting more. Kudos to Carol and her editors. I can't wait for her next book!
Because of my name, people always ask if I know Carol. The book's tone has a being there - in the moment realness, makes the reader a part of the story and makes me feel like I really do know her!
Read 'This Year's Model' - you'll love the becoming part of a model's world. I did.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Enchanting Review: This Year's Model
THIS YEAR'S MODEL
CAROL ALT

Rating: 4.5 Enchantments

Melody Ann Croft finds the guy she's waiting on at table eight to be unnerving, what with the way he keeps complimenting her, like he thinks she should be on the menu. But when his meal's done and he hands her a card, telling her to call the modeling agencies and drop his name, she can't imagine the sudden twist her life's about to take.

Within the course of a few months her life is barely recognizable. The eighteen year old Melody is now 'Mac', and she's spending more time in the city than at home with her family. Her days are filled with go-sees, photo shoots and rare down time spent at the local tea shop, hanging out with Jade and her crush in newcomer male model, Duncan Shiloh. From her newfound jet setting model ways to walking the runways for Fashion Week in New York and Milan for some of the hottest designers, her ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Masturbation for the Superficial
I'm not sure who's intelligence the author is insulting by writing this book - the reader's or her own (probably both). But, I understand that the market demands that this story be told. The life of a model has a mystique of luxury and glamor that all us muggles can only speculate about in our wildest dreams. In that sense, yes, Alt does a passable job of letting us live vicariously through her Alice as she struts down the rabbit hole.

But it's this world, this fantasy of working in the modeling industry that's just mind-blowing. No doubt Carol Alt's many years of experience as a model supplies a majority of the stories in book - the possible fact of which makes this book truly horrifying. This is a world where people are rewarded grossly (financially/professionally/socially) for simply how they look. It's world where your "work" is holding still for a camera (eek!) and regular exercise at the gym ... Read More
