Product Description:

From one of the greatest rock guitarists of our era comes a memoir that redefines sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll

He was born in England but reared in L.A., surrounded by the leading artists of the day amidst the vibrant hotbed of music and culture that was the early seventies. Slash spent his adolescence on the streets of Hollywood, discovering drugs, drinking, rock music, and girls, all while achieving notable status as a BMX rider. But everything changed in his world the day he first held the beat-up one-string guitar his grandmother had discarded in a closet.

The instrument became his voice and it triggered a lifelong passion that made everything else irrelevant. As soon as he could string chords and a solo together, Slash wanted to be in a band and sought out friends with similar interests. His closest friend, Steven Adler, proved to be a conspirator for the long haul. As hairmetal bands exploded onto the L.A. scene and topped the charts, Slash sought his niche and a band that suited his raw and gritty sensibility.

He found salvation in the form of four young men of equal mind: Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Steven Adler, and Duff McKagan. Together they became Guns N' Roses, one of the greatest rock 'n' roll bands of all time. Dirty, volatile, and as authentic as the streets that weaned them, they fought their way to the top with groundbreaking albums such as the iconic Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion I and II.

Here, for the first time ever, Slash tells the tale that has yet to be told from the inside: how the band came together, how they wrote the music that defined an era, how they survived insane, never-ending tours, how they survived themselves, and, ultimately, how it all fell apart. This is a window onto the world of the notoriously private guitarist and a seat on the roller-coaster ride that was one of history's greatest rock 'n' roll machines, always on the edge of self-destruction, even at the pinnacle of its success. This is a candid recollection and reflection of Slash's friendships past and present, from easygoing Izzy to ever-steady Duff to wild-child Steven and complicated Axl.

It is also an intensely personal account of struggle and triumph: as Guns N' Roses journeyed to the top, Slash battled his demons, escaping the overwhelming reality with women, heroin, coke, crack, vodka, and whatever else came along.

He survived it all: lawsuits, rehab, riots, notoriety, debauchery, and destruction, and ultimately found his creative evolution. From Slash's Snakepit to his current band, the massively successful Velvet Revolver, Slash found an even keel by sticking to his guns.

Slash is everything the man, the myth, the legend, inspires: it's funny, honest, inspiring, jaw-dropping . . . and, in a word, excessive.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The problems with this book.
The problems I had with this book. I have just finished reading it tonight. The first problem was it took up a lot of my time without me realising it. I could not put this book down. This book literally is the second book I have read from start to finish and I was absolutely mesmerised by it. If you like Slash, GNR and the rest of the guys then this is the book for you. I would say it gives you a good insight about the band and Slash's life. The second problem I have now is I don't think the rest of the guys have done the same and it is such a shame that they haven't because the world from their mouth would complement this book so well. The thing that interested me the most when reading the book is that Slash talks about a documentary they were working on during the Use Your Illusion tours. Because of the demise of the band all the film reels have been locked away never to see the light of day. This is a Guns N Roses ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not Excessive - Just Your Typical "Sex, Drugs and Rock N' Roll" Thing
That cliche of "Never judge a book by its cover" was never so true when it comes to this product. What made me interested in this book in the first place and made me read it thoroughly in just two days is the simple fact that it was about one of my greatest music idols in my teenager years - and still is today - Slash.

I thought the book interesting based on the fact that it is almost all about Guns N' Roses, which is no surprise, since the band took a great deal of his lifetime. Since I was a band fan, most of the happenings that are described in the book are not exactly a surprise. Anyone who followed the band through MTV or music magazines somehow knew what was going on until they disbanded. However, it is great that finally Slash, who was a part of it, decided to put into words his own perspective on what was going on, and confirmed basically everything which was reported at that time. One side of the ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - you need to understand the situation
This might be a short argument but this is a good book, pretty clear and funny biography. If you are a fan of GN and have live a similar crazy life as any of the character of the band, you might find the book very interesinting and funny. It brings all kind of memories about things that you had done when you were a teenager. I am not saying that it is ok to do stuped things, special when people get hurt, but the story of Slash' life is similar as mine; exept that I did not became famus, make money or anything similar. Although, the book related all this kind of stories, it is very well explained about what really happen with the band and its members. I think that the book is really good, and every penny that you pay is worthy. The book is just for entertaiment, and for GN and Slash' fans. If you dislike the book is because you refuse to understand what is like to live an out of control life, or you are too boring to understand ... Read More
