Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Notorious Proposition
Garrett Burke and Ivy Wentworth used to be lovers. Two years ago, Garrett left Ivy sleeping and slipped away in search of finding some missing diamonds. Garrett planned on finishing this one last assignment and then returning to Ivy in order to convince her to spend the rest of her life with him. When Garrett returned, Ivy was not to be found.

Ivy once loved Garrett but two years is a long time to think of his leaving her to go off without a word. Arriving at the destination of her latest errand, Ivy never thought she would be face to face with Garrett again. Now they must join forces to once again search for the missing Martello diamonds. Ivy is willing to give up everything for Garrett, everything except her heart that is.

I have said more than once that historical romances are my favorite genres to read. Historical romances such as A Notorious Proposal are ambrosia to my mind. ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Enjoyable Mystery 3.5
This book focuses more on the mystery than on the romance in my opinion. The story moves along well with the action and suspense of the mystery, but not so much with the relationship between Ivy and Garrett. I didn't quite understand why Garrett had to publicly tell Ivy who he was though. They were a loving couple, but as I said the focus isn't so much on the relationship between the two of them except for solving the mystery together. Interesting plot that keeps you guessing and enjoyable for that.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - A Laborious Proposition
For the life of me, I could not get into this book. I read more than half of the book and just decided to end it there because it was extremely boring. Echoing another reviewing, there was never any notorious proposition. The suspense (both romantic and mystery), which I think the author was trying to use to keep readers interested, was doing a very poor job at it. The "mystery" seemed to be very artificial, since there were loopholes all over. It was just a very obvious and contrived guise for the hero and heroine to get together again so they could have their happy ending.

Lately, I have not been able to find historical romance books which contain wonderfully developed stories that do not twist stories to fit a romance, but integrate romance into the story so that both the actual story and the romance are in balance with each other to make a perfectly whole and complete story. If you're interested ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - too many loose ends.......
let me state that i really like adele ashworth. stolen charms and especially winter garden were great. but.....this book leaves too many loose ends for me... perhaps i dozed through the part of the book that left me wondering:

why does garrett wait two years to confront ivy. yes, he had some memory loss, but he still remembered parts of their past,
why wait until he buys the estate some 22 months after his attack to find answers regarding ivy, was it just because he was able to buy the estate that he decided after 22 months to clarify things,
what happened to garrett during these 2 years, how did he break-off with his fiance, then, a gentlemen did not usually break an engagement, the woman was allowed to break it to save her reputation. since his fiances reputation evidently was still in tact, what happened, no mention of his exploits during the 2 years only that ivy avoided him after the way ...
